Reflections on the Day

Reflections on the Day – February 5, 2008

reflections

Reflections on the Day for February 5, 2008.
The clouds moved back in today.  It is cold and damp feeling.

Plans for tomorrow – Little Flowers then lunch with a friend.  The day is basically gone at that point.

I am wearing – Can I get into my jammas yet?

I am feeling – Really tired.  I spent a good part of the day at dad’s doing the books.  The children brought their school work with them and then we went to the library.

I am hearing – The children are cleaning up the kitchen.  I will have to go in a see how they did in a few minutes.

I am thankful for – My heated mattress pad.

In prayer – Kyle while he is traveling and Granny.

The Children:

Ashley – Her phone is back and working again.
Rachel – I feel badly because it has been too long since she had a home visit.
Christopher – Is doing really well with the dishes.
Hannah – Can pout like no one I have ever seen before.  The funny thing is that when you clue her in on how ridiculous she is being she starts to laugh.
Joshua – Has been in “BOY!” form today.  Jumping, running, bashing, talking in the fake baritone voice.
Sarah
Is just being a sweet little thing.  Last night I had her on my lap and told her “You are such a precious little thing”  she smiled and said “Yep, I’m a press us little ting”.  So cute.

The Homefires:

Kitchen – We had Sweeidsh meatballs for dinner.
Craft-room – The First communion dress project is coming along.  I am almost done with the embroidery and then I will post the next installment. Still.
Music – I love listening to jazz while I do the books.
Lucky Room of the Day – The kitchen.

My pleasant thought for the Day –

“Neither do I decry the work of humanists, who give gladly of themselves for others and who can often shame the avowedly religious. Those who do God’s work are God’s people.

I only say that there are limits to humanism and beyond those limits God and only God can work. The phrase “fear of God” conjures up the vengeful God of parts of the Old Testament. But “fear of God” means really obedience to God; humility before God; acceptance through God that there is something bigger, better and more important than you. It is that humbling of man’s vanity, that stirring of conscience through God’s prompting, that recognition of our limitations, that faith alone can bestow.

We can perform acts of mercy, but only God can lend them dignity. We can forgive, but only God forgives completely in the full knowledge of our sin.

And only through God comes grace; and it is God’s grace that is unique.

John Newton, who had been that most obnoxious of things, a slave-trader, wrote the hymn “Amazing Grace”.

“Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved.”

It is through faith, by the Grace of God, that we have the courage to live as we should and die as we must. ” ~ Tony Blair

Reflections on the Day – February 4, 2008

reflections

Reflections on the Day for February 4, 2008.
We have a lot of sunshine, cool weather, the children can’t decide if they want to be inside or out.

Plans for today – I need to go shopping.   We need some milk, eggs, the typical grocery stuff.

I am wearing – My mossy green top, brown pants and my comfy slippers.

I am feeling – Meh.  Dad and I got the last of the Elders of the Alliance done this morning.  This finished the meta achievement for me.  Dad has to finish the Omen part and grab the Elder in Winter’s grasp.  Both of those are easy. I normally don’t touch WoW until after dinner, but getting into the opposing faction capitals in prime time would be nuts!  This morning it wasn’t bad at all.  Last night was our guild “alt night” instead we hit all the Northrend instance elders and finished off the Elders of the Dungeons .  Dhrin tanked and we picked up a couple friends from way back in our Ony raid days,  Gorakul (used to ping the map during phase two) and Kalfallon from White Kodo Clan.  They were so nice.  Helped us finish off the Elders. They asked dad about his talent points and then spent the next three hours helping him respec, walking him through switching to beast master, getting him a glyph or two.  Dad was so happy this morning.    Bob and Duke were also on vent playing Starcraft last night they stopped in and talked a while. Really great evening.

I am hearing – The two little naughty ones are trying to get water into the dinning room to play with the little people fountain.  They would have gotten away with it at least for a little while if they hadn’t started screaming about the water as soon as they started it up.  Christopher is practicing his piano.

I am thankful for – Really good children.

In prayer – Kyle while he is traveling and Granny.

The Children:

Ashley – Is working tonight.
Rachel – I didn’t make her dentist appointment this morning, there was just no way I could get all the way over there by 8:30 with the four younger ones in tow.
Christopher – Love his new piano book.
Hannah – Is working on a crossword puzzle.
Joshua – Thinks I should learn how to play Lego Batman.
Sarah
Refuses to tell me why her hair is wet.

The Homefires:

Kitchen – Christopher and I did a good clean up in there this morning.
Craft-room – The First communion dress project is coming along.  I am almost done with the embroidery and then I will post the next installment.
Music – Today is music lesson day.
Lucky Room of the Day – The office.

My pleasant thought for the Day –

“A good character is the best tombstone.  Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered.  Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.” ~ Charles H. Spurgeon

Reflections on the Day – November 18, 2008

reflections

Reflections on the Day for November 18, 2008.
The day has been sunny but chilly,  almost like fall is slipping into winter.

Plans for today – Today started out busy and just kept going.  We had an appointment for portraits today for the younger ones and that went really well, except for Sarah totally refusing to take part.

I am wearing – My brown slacks and a comfy black top.

I am feeling – So much better.  I am just slightly coughing and  my head is starting to feel clear.

I am hearing –  Nightmare before Christmas is playing in the other room.  Ashley picked it up from the library.

I am thankful for – Having a teen who is willing and able to help out so I can deal with the things I need to do while Kyle is gone.!

In prayer – Nadine, Kyle while he is traveling (poor guy is sick), Granny and Pat.

The Children:

Ashley – Is in charge tonight while I am at the homeschool support meeting.
Rachel –  I need to call the house and set up the Holiday schedule.
Christopher – Was so helpful this morning.
Hannah – Oh what a beauty she is in her pictures.
Joshua –  Has had a really good day today.  He is such a ham.
Sarah
Frustrated me to no end at the studio.  I so wish she would have given the pictures a go, I know she is going to be sad when they come back and she isn’t in them.

The Homefires:

Kitchen – Tonight is easy dogs in a blanket for the kids!
Craft-room – I am dropping the sewing machine off on my way to the meeting.
Music – OMG there is Christmas music not just in the mall, but one of the stations in town has already switched to Christmas songs.
Lucky Room of the Day –  The living room.

My pleasant thought for the Day –

Reflections on the Day

Reflections on the Day – November 14, 2008

reflections

Reflections on the Day for November 14, 2008.
The sun is spilling out from the clouds making everything golden.

Plans for today – Is it Friday already?  My goodness, where has the week gone?  Today I will work on getting a few things done… wow.  Friday already.

I am wearing – My olive corduroy pants and the snap button top.

I am feeling – Slightly congested.  I think my almost ten week long cough is getting better, I had xrays done this week and they say my lungs look fine.  It is to the point where I wish they would find something so I could do something about it.

I am hearing –  Amazing Grace on the radio.  I love the line “The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine, But God who called me here below,  Will be forever mine.”  It reminds me of watching Amazing Grace I had heard good things about the film and was not disappointed.

I am thankful for – A decent day weather-wise to get some fall yard work done.   Oh, and though it seems silly – yesterday was the release of WoW’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion.  Kyle and I both enjoy the game and we have never picked up any of the limited edition packs, this time we hoped to get them but they were sold out of the Collector’s Editions within a day or two of when they were available for pre-order.  I was sort of disappointed.  Yesterday, my dad (who also plays) called and let me know that Fred Meyers had the CE available.  I popped down to my store and they had none on the shelves, they had been open at midnight to sell them.  I asked and low and behold there was a box of stock that they had missed in the selling extravaganza the night before which had a couple of collectors editions in it… that I got – for the regular price not the insane $129 I am seeing them for now.  Woot!  Little baby dragon is mine… Joy!

In prayer – Nadine, Zachary, Granny and Pat.

The Children:

Ashley – Was doing the moody-blues teen thing last night.
Rachel –  I am waiting to hear back from her teacher…. tap, tap, tap.  Apparently she got into a person’s yard and ate a rose while out walking while at school.
Christopher – Was very excited yesterday that his math (fractions) click yesterday.
Hannah – Is starting to read really well.
Joshua –  Yesterday was a rough day for Josh.  Hopefully today will be better.
Sarah
Woke up this morning and told me she was wearing a night-gown.  It  is a very pretty night-gown.  She is just too sweet.

The Homefires:

Kitchen – Pizza night!  woot!
Craft-room – I am cutting out a pattern today.
Music – Sarah might be my most musical child at the moment.  Yesterday she was sitting at the piano gently picking out one note at a time while singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. Now, mind you, none of the notes were actually correct, but it was very cute.
Lucky Room of the Day –  The bathroom.

My pleasant thought for the Day –

“For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards Heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”
~Saint Therese of Lisieux

reflections

Reflections on the Day for November 7, 2008.
Typical wet fall day in Portland.

Plans for today – We Have Little Flowers this morning.  Tonight is “pizza night”.

I am wearing  Cream top and brown pants.  I need to get my shoes on soon.

I am feeling  Sleepy,  I had a strange dream that we were selling our house.  Most of our neighborhood had been leveled and we needed to go somewhere else.

I am hearing –  Almost nothing, the computer is humming and Christopher is trying to convince Sarah to get out of my bed and eat breakfast.

I am thankful for  Kyle being home!  Even if he does have to go back again, it was nice to get him back so soon.

In prayer Our nation, my grandmother.

The Children:

Ashley – I wish she would remember to ask for things more than 12 hours before she needs them.
Rachel –  She turns 15 this weekend.  Holy Cow!
Christopher – Is a funny kid.  He is good at getting the dog to do what he wants.
Hannah – Is very excited for Little Flowers today.
Joshua –  Is starting off on kind of a bad foot this morning.  I will be glad when he gets over this phase.
Sarah

Reflections on the Day

Reflections on the Day – November 4, 2008

reflections

Reflections on the Day for November 4, 2008.
Today is election day.  The weather is alternating grey and chilly with bright  sunshine.

Plans for today – The ballots where dropped off at the  library, then we had lunch.   I want to work on getting some more work on the book shelves done today.

I am wearing  My slacks and a comfy top.

I am feeling  A little out of sorts.  The boys have been especially trying these past two days.  My chair broke.  I can’t believe it, but the back just snapped off.  Very depressing.

I am hearing –  Christopher walk himself through long division.

I am thankful for  Our new roof. If anything would have made to old one leak it would have been the past couple days of rain.

In prayer The election, Kyle while he is traveling.

The Children:

Ashley – Was so helpful last night.  She made dinner while I went to the store and got her a new bus pass.
Rachel – I keep forgetting to email her teacher.  I will do that next.
Christopher – Do you remember the pain of learning long division…. I do.  And if I had forgotten I have just been reminded
Hannah – Is very excited that she has been invited to a tea party this weekend.
Joshua –  I have never seen a child more into coloring pirates.
Sarah
– Misses her daddy and has been a very good potty-girl.

The Homefires:

Kitchen – I want to remember to start sour-dough tonight.
Craft-room – There is a bit of sewing I am getting to and I need to take my machine in for its tune-up.
Music – Josh learned “When the saints come marching in” at CCD last night.  A couple of the children wore their Saint costumes to class and Josh was so sad and upset because he was worried that he would be the only child there in street clothes.  He was sort of mad at me.  But he was fine when he got to class and saw that most his class didn’t wear costumes.
Lucky Room of the Day –  The living room.

My pleasant thought for the Day – The election is over today!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you –
