FOR TODAY : September 22, 2008
The weather is shifting to cool and fall feels like it is really here.

Outside my Window – It rained last night so everything is damp.  This morning the cats had brought in a “little friend”.  I managed to scoop Mr Mousey back outside and I closed the cat’s window “door” so they can’t bring anymore friends home.

I am thinking –I have lots of work to finish this week.

From the learning rooms – I plan to start working on our civics unit this week.  We will start by talking about countries, states and cities.

I am thankful for My friend Careen and her wonderful family.  We will miss them!

From the kitchen –Warm coffee so far.  Today is the first day of CCD so we will have something in the crockpot for dinner.

I am wearing  My brown slacks and a blue long sleeved top.

I am reading – Nothing…. what really?  yes, nothing today.  I need to fix that.

I am hoping – That I can manage to get at least part of me “Todo” list done today.

I am creating – Knitting Hannah’s sweater and making plans for Halloween.

I am hearing –  Nothing, the house is peaceful this morning.  Just the soft hum of computers and lights and the occasional sound of a car on the street.

Around the house – I am going to start twitching if I think about this too much — seriously.

One of my favorite things – The smell of things being smoked.  One of our neighbors smokes salmon and meat every year.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week – Not as much going on this week as last.  Enrichment classes start this week,  CCD and there is a cub scout meeting.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you –

FOR TODAY : September 15, 2008
Beuatiful and clear Indian Summer.

Outside my Window – Today is clear, cool and beautiful.  There are a few trees in the neighborhood that are just starting to turn.

I am thinking –I have let myself get off track the last couple weeks and things are starting to pile up a little.

From the learning rooms – We will be starting back with music and art this week.  Hopefully we will also be doing and outing for civics.

I am thankful for Good friends.  I was given a Beta key for WoW… woot!

From the kitchen – Warm coffee so far.  We will be having some chocolate cake today.

I am wearing  My brown capris and a comfy top.  Lot’s of work today.

I am reading – Starship troopers.  Yes, that seems like an odd selection, especially if you have only seen the movie, but this is about the third time I have read it.  It is short and insightful.  Great stuff.

I am hoping – That I can manage to get at least part of me “Todo” list done today.
I am creating – Knitting Hannah’s sweater and making plans for Halloween.

I am hearing –  The kids are yelling a lot this morning.  Apparently they are pirates.

Around the house – I am going to start twitching if I think about this too much.

One of my favorite things – The little “survivor” fern that managed to live through being forgotten along the side of a planter, not watered, sunbaked and still recovered. It is looking really healthy at the moment.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week – Kyle is traveling this week.  Still! He was gone last week as well and this is a big part of why I am so off with everything.  He will be home Friday.  Josh’s birthday is today.  Ashley’s confirmation practice is tonight, then she is Confirmed on Wednesday.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you – (bonus three)

This little guy is turning five today.

FOR TODAY : August 25, 2008
A bit of rain, a little cooler, summer seems to be giving up on us.

Outside My Window… There are gray clouds outside.  The apple tree is still heavy with fruit.  The recent rains have watered the lawn and it is starting to green up a bit.  My rosemary has hit a growing streak and I can see the tips of new growth over my window sill.
I am thinking…  This week I am working on so many things it is hard to keep everything straight.
I am thankful for…  My dad and brother getting back from their race car thing safely.
From the kitchen… I have my coffee this morning.  Tonight we are having homemade mac and cheese which will make the children wildly happy.
I am wearing…  a pink sweater and brown capris.
I am creating…  This isn’t a creating week, this week is a week to gather all my loose ends and then head out for the cabin.
I am going…  To the Cabin this weekend with the children.
I am reading…  In Defense of Food.
I am hoping…  That I get those things I need to get done taken care of.
I am hearing…  A bit of early morning traffic, one lone song bird.
Around the house…  I need to get the packing done for the cabin.  I am working on week two of my Holiday Grand Plan thing.
One of my favorite things…  The rich smokey smell when the neighbor is curring salmon.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Lots of cleaning and packing, getting ready for our Cabin trip.

I am thinking… About how much I need to do this week.
I am thankful for… Swim lessons.  The children have such a great time going to swim lessons.
From the kitchen… Sour dough bread today.
I am wearing… brown pants and a olive colored shirt.

I am going…  I have a Dr appointment this morning and then we have swim lessons.
I am reading…  Laundry, and A Mother’s Rule of Life.
I am hoping…  For so many things.
I am hearing…  My oldest son got up early and is playing with some toy in the living room.  “Jump!. Roll!   Dodge!”  a battle maybe?
Around the house… I am preparing a new garden bed almost done there.
One of my favorite things… My Stand mixer.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – July 21

he Simple Woman’s Daybook
is hosted by Peggy at the Simple Woman.
Thank you Peggy, this is so much fun!

FOR TODAY : July 21, 2008
This is going to be a busy week.

Outside My Window… I  can see the moon.  I love a “Children’s Moon”.  The summer is wearing on and there are lots of apples in the tree.  The berries will be ready before much longer.
I am thinking… That I am starving.  I really am not starving I am just fasting before this morning’s blood draw, but I feel like I might waste away in that time.  Silly mind tricks.
I am thankful for… My Sister in law who gifted us about a ton of clothing.  I think I just got about 12 bags of stuff in my living room.  More on this later today.
From the kitchen… I am a moron and forgot to buy milk when I went to the store yesterday.  I also can’t eat at the moment.
I am wearing…  Brown slacks and a brown/white sweater-t thing.
I am creating…  Apple sauce.  The neighbor lady generously allowed me to denude her apple tree.  We will make a big batch and freeze some.
I am going…  To my blood draw this morning.  Just a routine metabolic screening to see how diabetic I might be.
I am reading…  Laundry, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell and It’s All Too Much.
I am hoping…  That  the draw isn’t bad, that the apple sauce turns out well and that my adventure through “gifted clothing land” goes quickly.
I am hearing…  The evil crow.  This bird looks evil and I think he is bugging Mr Fluff-Butt the backyard Squirrel.
Around the house…Bags of clothing.
One of my favorite things… Breakfast (giggle).
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:  We are going to a wedding this Saturday so I need to get everything together for that.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – July 14

he Simple Woman’s Daybook
is hosted by Peggy at the Simple Woman.
Thank you Peggy, this is so much fun!

FOR TODAY : July 14, 2008
We got back from camping yesterday so today is definitely a little different than normal.

Outside My Window…  I am hopeful that today will not be as hot as yesterday.  I was wilting by the late afternoon.  When we upgraded our heating system we decided NOT to get air conditioning as we only really need it a few days out of the year.  SO for about a week two or three times every summer I regret that we didn’t do it.  This is probably going to be one of those weeks.
I am thinking… About the fantastic time we had camping.  I will post more on it later today, but it was such a great trip and I am SO happy we went.  (Thanks Jennifer for encouraging us to go!)
I am thankful for…All the wonderful people in our homeschool group.  They are such good parents and they have such great children.  I am so glad that my parents are here in town too, they took care of my dogs and plants.
From the kitchen… Nothing yet.  IF it isn’t too hot I will make some bread.  If it is I will restrict myself to cucumber salad.
I am wearing…  A black and white floral dress.
I am creating… The revised camping list.  I am also  working on some new plans for the fall.
I am going…  To take the children to the park this afternoon
I am reading…  One Man’s America, Laundry, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell and It’s All Too Much.
I am hoping…  That the heat subsides at least a little.
I am hearing…  The fan.
Around the house… I have camping gear everywhere. Just like last week only now I am trying to get it all put away.
One of my favorite things… My embroidery threads.  They look so pretty in their box.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:  Recovering from the camping thing.  Ordering butterflies.  Finishing the homeschool plans for the fall and doing a good bit of reading.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…(coming later today)

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – July 7

the Simple Woman’s Daybook
is hosted by Peggy at the Simple Woman.
Thank you Peggy, this is so much fun!

FOR TODAY July 7, 2008
I really have to laugh at myself.  I thought I had this all nicely formatted and ready to go and then I looked at it and I had saved it all funny.  One of these days I might be able to function WHILE my coffee is brewing.  🙂   Today is obviously NOT that day.

Outside My Window…  The sun is just starting to rise and there is a soft cool breeze blowing the dampness from the grass through the window.  We have had intense weather this summer, very cold, then hot, some good thunder storms.  Today is normal,  dew on the grass, little bit of a marine layers that will burn off as soon as the sun is up full.
I am thinking… I have so much to do this week.  I need to go to the library, shop for the trip, make sure we have everything set to go, pack, load the car.  But I am also very excited to be taking the kids camping.
I am thankful for…So many kind people at our parish.  The camping trip is with the homeschool group and people have been so helpful.  We have even been loaned a bike rack so I can bring the children’s bikes.  Kyle can’t come down for a couple day after I leave and there have been offers from the guys who will be there — I know the tent will get up at least.
From the kitchen…I did some baking over the weekend for the forth. The children decorated cupcakes
I am wearing…  Pink sweater and brown capris.  Bare feet, I usually have bare feet inside, either that or my soft, blue slippers.  I think that is part of why I failed flylady. The whole “dress to the shoes” thing made the petulant girl in me stick out my tongue and say “Oh, yeah, that’s stupid”.   Though I do have to laugh.  When I first saw her “thing” it included putting on shoes AND make-up.  Since I own a grand total of one lipstick you can imagine how seriously I took it all.
I am creating… The Camping List.  I have the basic list done, the one that I check off that we actually own enough sleeping bags and such.  This list needs to be the packing list, I need the menu list.  I love lists.  My dad taught me the usefulness of lists when I was a child.  He is a grand master list maker… I am a novice compared to him.
I am going…  Camping this weekend.  This is the first time in years that I have been tent camping and I am looking forward to it.  (did you guess that yet?)
I am reading…  Laundry, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell and It’s All Too Much.  A new book has made its way to the list this week: George Will’s, One Man’s America.  I was thrilled to see the Anchoress recommending him the same time the book finally got to me (I had it on hold at the library) I love the video she has of George Will & Stephen Colbert, in fact that was what inspired me to get the book in the first place.
I am hoping…  That I don’t start stressing out the next few days.
I am hearing…  There is a bird squawking.  I think it is one of the birds nesting in our tree in the yard.
Around the house… I have camping gear everywhere.  It is starting to get to me.  I am tripping over stuff and that increases the stressed feeling that I won’t get it all in the mini-van.
One of my favorite things… My great grandfather’s ice-cream churn.  I still have it and it still works, but it  needs a little work. Where does one get a 1928 ice-cream churn worked on?
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:  The camping thing woo hoo.   Yeah, I know I have been going on about it.  I know though that the second I leave the city limits I will relax and have fun.  Till then I am trying to enjoy the moment, watching the kids get a bit more excited every day and just glad to have the chance to do this sort of thing.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

Hannah at the park when she was very small
Those are band-aids on her forehead covering the stitches from the time she ran smack into the corner of the doorway leading into the kitchen.  I thought is might slow her down, make her more cautious… no…..
