Living a Catholic Life in the Modern World
Just one more Catholic wife and mother on the interenet, blogging about homeschooling, living the faith and all that sort of thing.
Hi,
My name is Krissy Peterson. I am a freelance writer for U.S. Catholic magazine. I am currently working on a story about parents with children who have developmental disabilities. The story will look at how this has challenged and enriched the faith of the parents. The story is also going to look at things like how a parish accepts (or may not accept) a child with developmental disabilities and also how the child understands the faith. One of the incidents that would be mentioned, but would not be the focus of the piece, is the incident involving the Race family in Minnesota.
I see from your blog that you have written extensively about that case and also about the experiences of having a child with autism and how that impacts your faith. I was hoping that you might be interested in being included in this piece. I would be happy to email you more information or to answer any questions you may have about this. If you would be interesting in speaking with me for this story, please email me at krissypeterson@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time.
peace,
Krissy
Hi there! I came across your blog through googling “catholic” and “autism.” I just started working as a Coordinator of Youth Ministry, and there are a few middle schoolers in my parish with autism, one of whom is in my Christian Formation class, which is very, very group-collaboration oriented. We had our second class tonight, and I came home and immediately started looking for some resources — I am very uneducated about autism, and I feel horrible about not being able to meet my student’s needs. I’m wondering if you might be able to point me towards some resources that might help me adapt the curriculum to suit him better, and/or help him participate a little easier. Any information would be super helpful!
Thanks so much!
Maggie
